Stress relieving should not be confused with
annealing,
normalizing
or tempering. Stress relieving is defined as heating to a suitable temperature (less than annealing) and holding long enough reduce residual stresses, followed by controlled cooling to minimize the development of new residual stresses. Typically, no change in microstructure is observed but a reduction in hardness is quite common.
For certain applications, you'll need steel components that permit cold formability to a greater extent. In these cases, we can perform a subcritical treatment of your steel components in both batch and continuous processing methods.
